Borated Flex Panel

MODEL JC227

Description:

Borated Flex / Panel is a flexible lightweight sheet material, which has a high concentration of boron to minimize the effects of neutrons striking the surroundings. A boron content of 9% gives the material an attenuation factor of 22 for thermal neutrons. Its hydrogen content helps slow the fast neutrons, which can reduce the overall radiation field.

High energy accelerators and fusion test facilities can produce high energy neutrons. JC227 is designed to be fixed to walls, floors and ceilings to reduce activation of concrete and cut down the overall radiation field. Borated Flex / Panel Wall Shield is a self-extinguishing, lightweight material with a high concentration of boron. Borated Flex / Panel is also used on the inner walls of treatment rooms to prevent the production of high-energy capture gammas and the activation of the components of concrete.

Borated Flex / Panel suppresses such nuclear reactions as the production of AI-28, which has a nuclear half-life of 2.3 minutes and a 1.78 MeV gamma from concrete walls, permitting earlier access to the accelerator area after completion of the treatment. This strong rubber -like material is also self-extinguishing when exoposed to flame.

Borated Flex / Panel is an inexpensive neutron shielding material, available in various sheet sizes. The material can be installed by nonspecialized personnel; it can be cut to size using a pocket knife, be bent in a radius as small as 1/2' (12.7mm), and can be readily applied to concrete or other wall surfaces using standard mounting techniques.

Special shaped sizes and thicknesses can be fabricated upon request.
