The EM1 was commissioned by EURATOM for their safeguards program.
It is a portable instrument designed for the measurement of Uranium and Plutonium
The EM1 is a lightweight portable MCA for nuclear radiation analysis. Spectrum data and results are presented on a built-in LCD display. An infrared serial link is installed for transferring data to a PC, and can be used for complete remote operation of the instrument from the PC. The mode of data collection and analysis is controlled by 4 'soft' keys adjacent to the display which are labeled on the screen. Thus the instrument can be held and operated with one hand providing a powerful tool for collecting data on site.
The design of the EM1 makes it extremely flexible for customisation to specific applications. The operating software is downloaded from a PC and stored in Flash RAM allowing different ROI's and data interpretation to be programmed. The EM1 was initially designed as a nuclear materials analyser for use in Safeguards, and is currently being expanded to include dose rate measurements.
