Semiconductor Detectors

Cadmium Telluride - counters and spectrometers

These detectors have several unique properties:

  • Operation at room temperature
  • High atomic number giving high absorption
  • Stability in air
  • No high voltage
  • They can be assembled in arrays for imaging

  • Cadmium Telluride Counters

Sizes range from 1mm3 to 10mm3 with a range of mounts, including resin encapsulation, TO39 can, aluminium box with BNC connector. For imaging applications, high mounting accuracy on PCB's has been developed.

    Cadmium Telluride Spectrometers

Sizes from 1mm3 to 200mm3 in the above housings with differing electrode arrangements.

    Other Detectors

    Planar Ionisation Chambers

    Energy resolution below 5keV (122keV, Co-57). Operating range from 15keV to 700keV.

    Planar Diodes

For high resolution X-ray and gamma spectroscopy.

    Hemispheric detectors

Based on a single charge collection mechanism.

    Mercuric Iodide Detectors

This material is a high Z semiconductor, with a large band gap. This makes it suitable for high resolution, room temperature spectroscopy, especially for energies from a few keV to around 100keV. These detectors can be supplied in sizes up to 10 x 10mm, thicknesses typically 0.5 or 1.0, or as arrays.

    Silicon Detectors

For X-ray spectroscopy, these detectors are used for room temperature or cooled applications. The main application is in high resolution X-ray spectroscopy at energies below 60keV.
